CHERUBS,
Children's Helpers Educating, Reassuring and
Uniting By Sharing is a non-profit
corporation, made up of volunteers from around
the world. On March 15, 1999 we received our letter of determination
and 501 (c) (3) status with the IRS.
Founded in 1998 by Sandy Horvath and his son,
Scott.
CHERUBS
began when friends lost their baby daughter after months of waiting for a
heart transplant. Months of research and several visits to Children’s
Hospitals around the country revealed that parents were unaware of the
national shortage of child organ donors. Since then,
CHERUBS
(www.cherubs.org)
has spread awareness among hundreds of families around the world, and has
helped dozens of families find new beginnings for their children through
organ donation.
The
organization is linked with UNOS (United Network for Organ Donation),
COTA
(Children’s Organ Transplant Association), LifeCenter Northwest, Coalition
on Donation and many others.
Our primary
mission is to save the lives of thousands children
who are waiting for a life saving organ transplant, "The Gift of Life". We're focused on educating
parents to the fact that all children are at risk
of dying due to the national shortage of child organ donation.
Our secondary mission is to help save the lives of millions of children who are impoverished in the world. Our main focus is based on networking with the International Children's Network and specifically in Kenya, Africa, where they have had great success. ICN is bridging the gap between those who want to help bud do not know how and those who work with children but lack the necessary means to truly provide for their most basic needs. Networking with organizations that work with at-risk kids and providing them with financial support and accountability is at the cent of ICN's vision. Because they are given hope at an early age through the touch of someone a world away, children who grrow up with a sponsor are able to break the cycle of abuse and neglect that had once been so prevalent in their own lives, stemming the tide of a generation with no hope and no future.
Every day thousands of
parents are praying for a miracle: for their child to receive the gift of
life. The bottom line…solving this problem starts with awareness. By
asking parents to consider child organ donation before a tragedy occurs,
we can help save lives.
We are determined to eliminate the shortage of
child organ donation and to help children even if it's one child at a time.
